Vegetable gardening on the septic tank!

Hey! I've got half my vegetable garden in. Anyone putting one in this year? What are you planting? I've got some space left and don't know what else to plant??? *jan in despair*

So far I've got potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, lettuce, carrots, onions, basil, rosemary, turnips, beets, dill and pole beans...I know I am missing something but can't for the life of me think of what else I should plant.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Jan,

How about zucchini? They grow like crazy. I have tons planted in little pots waiting for DH to get the garden ready. I think I'll be giving most of the plants away cause there are way to many to fit in our tiny garden...(I think we have almost 30 plants)...and about 30 cherry tomato plants...and we planted 72 pots of tomatoes this week so we'll see how many of those come up...only 3 of my spaghetti squash seeds sprouted *pout*

We're only planting zuchini, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and a few spaghetti squash. Our soil is heavy clay and I can't afford to get a truck load of good dirt so we make do with what will grow here.

Oh! and my aunt always put her garden on the septic tank too...she always had a really great garden.

Oh man! I love zucchini! I'll plant some. I totally forgot about them. My favorite is those long green ones...peel, dig out the seeds, cut into cubes and let it simmer in water until they are soft enough to eat. Put on some salt and butter and oh! heavenly!

You have been totally productive with your garden, woman. 30 cherry tomato plants and 72 pots of tomotoes. Mmmmm yummmy! Tomato sauce!!! Oh baby.My fav.

Perhaps you can get some spaghetti squash plants from the greenhouse? That's what I do when my stash of vegees doesn't sprout right.

Have you tried composting? That's how my parent's ended up with good soil for their garden. Lucky dogs. Composting takes a little work...I wanted a composter but I'm getting too many "visitors" ripping it apart. Grrrr. So I've stopped it.

jan, who loves vegetable gardening

Hi Salsa Deb!

LOL. I'm with you on those herbs. We must be on the same wavelength as I just went to town yesterday and picked up some herb plants as well as zucchini. My favorite stuff made with herbs is tomato sauce...I love to put homegrown basil, curly parsely and my own onions in there.

I made salsa once...it was soooooo good, but then I lost the recipe. Gonna have to find me one on the Net. :-)
You are making me hungry with this talk of Salsa. LOL. Gonna go grab some breakfast.

Later,

jan

Hi Mia! *jan waving*

Alright! Another gardener! Whooohoo!

It's funny that you mention peppers. I just bought some green ones in plant form yesterday *high five*

Wow! Cantalope! I've never tried them. Hmmmm I may have to pick up some seeds next time I'm in town.

And thanks for the tips on the other ones. I've gotta get oregano...forgot that. Parsley is in, squash is in, Tomatoes plants (have 25 plants)are waiting for the warm weather so I can get them in too and I'm gonna have to do research on the artichoke...sounds familiar *grin*

Thanks again!!

jan, off to make a list

We are putting in what you have minus the turnips, and we add broccoli. Also have several types of salad greens.

Also have thyme, sage, chives and cilantro. The sage, chives and thyme are perineals.
