I'm surrounded!

They are everywhere!
In the trees. In the sky...all over my land. I do believe I am having what is called a chickadee convention! LOL. They are so cute...oh man am I sounding like a nature freak all of a sudden?

Well anyways unfortunately these fine feathered creatures are not coming to my numerous bird feeders Anyone know how to taunt a chickadee to a feeder? Grrrr.

Hmmm my mom says the chickadees are too busy laughing at my homemade feeders - made them out of milk cartoons and filled them with song bird seeds. What else can this new nature lover do?

jan, getting back to work

Jan, you're tooo funny! Glad the move ended successfully.

Try wild bird seed and maybe a suet ball. Those work out here in the Indiana backwoods.

Most important - no RED. Birds seem to be afrraid of red.

hmmmm chickadees love the sunflower seeds and they'll toss the stuff they don't like onto the ground around the feeder. They also take a few days to make sure the feeders are safe and that they won't be attacked while they feast...make sure the feeders are high up and not too close to any trees where preditors could hide.

When i was a kid I'd sit outside with sunflower seeds in my hand and they'd perch there and eat.

and the suet balls work too....my suet holder was a pain to put together though so I stopped using it.

hmmmm....I had red birdfeeders and never had a problem...then again I had tons of feeders and so can't really recall which ones were most effective.

ooh! You can also take an onion bag and fill it with peanuts...they love that.

They do like suet. Probably will take them a few days to decided it's on the up and up. good luck.

Hi Sloane!

Thanks for the suet ball tip. Totally cool! Gonna try it...

Okay no red...hmmm this could account for why no one is going near my red birdfeeder. LOL I got some wild bird seed and FINALLY today I have the little buggers attacking my other homemade birdfeeders!!! These chickadees are sooooo cute! I even have a squirrel on the plastic feeder I put on my deck.
Whhhoooohooo! I am a genuine nature lover!

Jennie! Thanks! I will pick up some sunflower seeds and peanuts and onions for the bag tomorrow first thing.

Those birds are so smart...they are even going into my tiny purple colored cream cartons that I cut windows into. LOL. My eleven year old nephew came for the weekend and we made another five birdfeeders out of orange juice and milk cartons that I've been saving...he even dumped the cat litter out of the container to make a feeder out of that...grrrr.LOL

I'm gonna try the sunflower seeds in my hands tomorrow and see if they come to me. :-)

Thanks for your wonderful tips!

Hey Mechele!

I'm going to try the suet. OMG did I mention I saw a huge woodpecker out on the tree yesterday?

He was as big as a chicken and had this big tuff of red ontop of his head...what an awesome sight!

Can you tell I've been living too long in the city?

Jan, I sit in my living room and watch the mourning doves that have a nest in the mesquite tree outside my living room window, plus I have little ground squirrels, and a couple of geckos that hang out on my back wall.

I can't begin to tell you how #@%*#! distracting they can be. LOL

One of the great things about rural living; all the birds! We see so many different kinds of woodpeckers here. And eagles. Have fun birdwatching!

Sherrill I'm beginning to see your point. I've found myself dilly dallying to the windows all day today to watch the chickadees swooping into all my birdfeeders...and there is one beautiful squirrel that my cats would love to get their paws on.
:-0
Even my red bird feeder finally got visitors today. LOL.
Very distracting indeed!

Jennie! Is that what it is??? Holy macaroni! He/she came back again today and pecked his/her head off on a nearby rotting tree...the bird really is BIG! I've never seen one that big...thought it was a grandfather pecker and just got big. LOL.

Jenna!
You gotta come out and see nature. It's a great stress releaser.

Maybe I should open up a writer's retreat...it's what my little nephew was yipping about all weekend. Said I should plop little cabins around the four acres...unfortunately I have neighbours down the ways with very yappy and distracting dogs. Grrr.

Charli!

All this birdwatching has put me behind on my writing. LOL. What I wouldn't do to see an eagle though. They must be awesome birds!

Today I went out and bought a big bag of sunflower seeds, more wild bird seeds, and suet!!! I'm gonna go broke feeding all these creatures! * huge grin *
